About Coach Roman

Chess has been part of my life since I was young in the Philippines, where I played competitive tournament chess and countless casual games with friends and family. Those games taught me patience, focus, and the joy of outthinking an opponent, and I’ve loved the game ever since.

Today I offer private and group chess lessons for beginners up to a 1000 rating, in Colorado Springs and online. I’m also the author of 15-Day Chess Boot Camp, a step-by-step program that takes new players from learning the moves to playing with real confidence.

It’s never too late to learn chess. My students include kids taking their first steps on the board and adults who always wanted to learn. I especially welcome seniors. Chess is a wonderful way to keep your mind active, enjoy friendly competition, and connect across generations. There’s nothing quite like a grandparent and grandchild sitting down to the same game.

Whether you’re 6 or 76, I’ll meet you where you are, explain things clearly, and make every lesson fun.
